Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the cornerstones of the operatic repertory, and remains a favourite for singers and listeners alike. This iconic opera, by the National Opera of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko, features a score filled with incredible melodies, and some of the most difficult arias in the soprano repertoire. With a tense plot and vivid characters paired with Verdi’s perfectly attuned music there won’t be a dry eye in the house. La Traviata is also, most famously, the opera that Richard Gere takes Julia Roberts to see in Pretty Woman.
