On 26 and 27 September, The Junction welcomes renowned Mumbai theatre company D for Drama for a special weekend featuring two of its most celebrated productions: Patna Ka Superhero and Puraane Chawal.

Headlining the weekend is acclaimed Bollywood and theatre actor Kumud Mishra, appearing live on stage in Puraane Chawal alongside Shubhrajyoti Barat. From a hilarious and moving confrontation between two ageing comedy legends to a nostalgic journey through the streets of small-town Patna, these are two very different stories united by exceptional writing, memorable performances and the magic of live theatre.

With two performances of each play across the weekend, audiences can choose either production—or experience both.

PATNA KA SUPERHERO
Step into the colourful, chaotic world of early-2000s Patna through the eyes of Manoj, an impressionable schoolboy captivated by the legend of Pintu Bhaiya—a notorious local strongman, fearless protector and hopeless romantic.

As Manoj is drawn deeper into Pintu Bhaiya’s world, a seemingly simple story of childhood hero-worship becomes something far richer: a tale of love, small-town loyalties, displaced identities and the people and places we leave behind.

Written and directed by Nihal Parashar, Patna Ka Superhero is a warm, witty and deeply moving solo performance featuring Ghanshyam Lalsa, who brings an entire city and its unforgettable characters to life. Filled with humour, satire, nostalgia and rare innocence, the play will make you laugh, stir old memories and perhaps leave you thinking about the heroes of your own childhood.

PURAANE CHAWAL
Starring Kumud Mishra and Shubhrajyoti Barat

Once celebrated as one of the country’s most beloved comedy duos, two veteran performers shared the stage for over four decades—until a bitter fallout tore them apart.

Now retired, struggling with fading relevance and still nursing old resentments, they are invited to reunite after more than a decade to perform their iconic act at the country’s biggest comedy festival. There is only one problem: they still cannot stand each other.

Starring acclaimed stage and screen actor Kumud Mishra alongside Shubhrajyoti Barat, Puraane Chawal is a sparkling Hindi adaptation of Neil Simon’s classic comedy The Sunshine Boys, directed by Sumeet Vyas.

Sharp, hilarious and unexpectedly tender, the play explores friendship, ego, ageing, artistic rivalry and what remains when the applause begins to fade.

Can these two old masters put the past aside and recreate their magic—or will their long-awaited comeback collapse before the curtain rises?
