On 26 and 27 September, Mumbai theatre company D for Drama comes to The Junction with Patna Ka Superhero and Puraane Chawal, two very different productions brought together by sharp writing, memorable performances and the intimacy of live theatre.

From the streets of small town Patna to the reunion of two ageing comedy legends, the weekend moves between nostalgia, humour, friendship, rivalry and everything we carry with us over time.

Acclaimed stage and screen actor Kumud Mishra stars alongside Shubhrajyoti Barat in Puraane Chawal, while Ghanshyam Lalsa brings an entire world of characters to life in the solo performance Patna Ka Superhero.

With two performances of each play across the weekend, choose one story or experience both.

PATNA KA SUPERHERO

Some heroes live in comic books. Others become legends in the neighbourhood.

Set in early 2000s Patna, Patna Ka Superhero follows Manoj, a schoolboy fascinated by Pintu Bhaiya, a local strongman, fearless protector and hopeless romantic.

What begins as childhood admiration slowly becomes a story about love, loyalty, identity and home. About the people we look up to, the places that shape us and the memories that follow us long after we move on.

Written and directed by Nihal Parashar, the play stars Ghanshyam Lalsa in a solo performance filled with humour, warmth and nostalgia.

PURAANE CHAWAL

Starring Kumud Mishra and Shubhrajyoti Barat. For more than four decades, they made people laugh together. Then they stopped speaking.

Once one of the country’s most loved comedy duos, two veteran performers are brought back together more than a decade after a bitter fallout. Their task is simple: reunite for one final performance at the country’s biggest comedy festival.

The problem is, neither of them has forgotten the past.

Directed by Sumeet Vyas, Puraane Chawal is a Hindi adaptation of Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, starring Kumud Mishra and Shubhrajyoti Barat.

Funny, tender and full of beautifully uncomfortable moments, the play explores friendship, pride, ageing and what happens when two people who know each other too well are asked to find their rhythm again.
