Inside the Artist: eight geniuses, the birth of masterpieces, the search for a visual language and the psychology of creativity.

How is a masterpiece born? What makes a genius pick up a brush, overcome fear, pain, doubt or social norms, and create something that changes the course of art history?

“Inside the Artist” is a deep dive into the psychology of creativity, the mental processes behind it and the search for a unique artistic language. We’ll look behind the scenes of great studios and trace how personal experience, fears, insights and the spirit of the age turn into iconic images, through the work of eight radically different artists.

At the centre of the lecture are eight very different masters whose names have become legends: Vincent van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Marc Chagall, Mikhail Vrubel, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Yayoi Kusama, Jackson Pollock and Damien Hirst.

Rather than simply retelling biographies, we’ll unpack how they thought: how artists found their signature style, why they broke with academic conventions and how their inner conflicts became a source of innovation.

We’ll also talk about how artists think and work today, in an age of digitalisation, artificial intelligence and a global art market, where authorship and the very nature of creativity are going through yet another revolution.
