Ustad Rashid khan is no stranger to the UAE and he’s returning on 8th April - Friday 2016 for the Season 5 Emirates NBD Classics

Known for his melodious rendering of songs such as Aaoge jab tum O saajna (Jab We Met), Allah Hi Reham (My Name Is Khan), Khan maintains singing in films is just a hobby and he has no wish to compose film music. His passion lies in classical music, which has earned him the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India.

The great grandson of the legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan Saheb, the founder of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana, Rashid Khan was born on 1st July, 1966 at Badaun, a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Rashid has fond memories of the town of Badaun and its surroundings where he has spent his early days. The river which flows by the town was a witness to the number of hours Rashid spent by its side singing; the mazhars of Bare Sarkar and Chote Sarkar where he still pays his respects on his visits to the home town and the cemetary where his parents and young brother have been laid to rest.

Rashid studied in Mumbai for about an year whereafter he came back to his hometown. His tutelage under his illustrious granduncle and guru, the late Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan changed the course of his life & made him what he is today. It was Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan who nurtured the latent potential of Rashid through his training in the traditional one-to-one manner, first at his own residence at Badaun (Uttar Pradesh) and subsequently at The Sangeet Research Academy in Calcutta.

Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan was a strict disciplinarian, and the long and arduous training under this guru made Rashid Khan a perfect exponent of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, which owes its allegiance to the Senia traditions and has a great lineage of classical vocalists like the great Ustads Bahadur Hussain Khan, Inayat Hussain Khan, Fida Hussain Khan, Mushtaq Hussain Khan, Nissar Hussain Khan.

Witness him at Season 5 Emirates NBD Classics : Ustad Rashid Khan live in concert will take place at Centrepoint Theatre, Ductac, Mall of the Emirates, on Friday, April 08 at 8pm, doors open 7pm. Tickets are priced at Dhs 150, Dhs 200 and Dhs 300.
