Dubai Opera and Encore, the leading performing arts company in Dubai which specialises in classical music and the arts, in collaboration with Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai present the new “Global Notes” concert series in the Dubai Opera Studio. The series continues with Laura Mekhail the wonderful young Egyptian soprano and the first Arab recipient of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation - Jameel Scholarship, and Encore Artistic Director and concert pianist Amira Fouad, for an exclusive concert at the Dubai Opera Studio.
A scholar and graduate of one of the World’s finest Conservatoires, The Royal College of Music, Laura Mekhail will astound our audience with a magical recital of classical arias from Puccini, Rossini and Bizet and legendary Arabic songs by Farid Al Atrash and Mohammed Abdel Wahab. Winner of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation-Community Jameel Scholarship to the Royal College of Music, soprano Laura Mekhail, the rising star from Egypt will be making her debut at Dubai Opera with Artistic Director of Encore, Amira Fouad on the piano.
Laura Mekhail will be performing music from the Baroque with beautiful arias from Handel’s ‘Theadora’ to the romantic operas of Puccini ’s ‘Madame Butterfly’ and Bizet’s ‘Carmen’. She will also be showing her voice’s incredible versatility with songs from the Argentinian composer Piazolla and favorites from the West End Musicals featuring ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Carousel.
Laura has also performed alongside Maestro Andrea Bocelli in his concert in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia, and has recently completed summer opera scenes at RCM, where she was cast as Bianca in La Rondine by Puccini and Mab in The Enchanted Pig by Johnathan Dove. Based in London, Laura found her passion for singing in her childhood while part of a church choir in Minya, Egypt. She later studied music performance at West Virginia Wesleyan College in the United States, where she was elected a member of the acapella choir working closely with Dr Dan Hughes, Director of Choral Activities, whom she credits with heavily influencing her vocal development. Accompanying her, acclaimed pianist Amira Fouad has been heard at some of the world's great concert halls such as Bösendorfer Hall in Vienna, Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, The National Concert Hall in Dublin, Cairo Opera House, St. John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall in London. Amira has also performed with various orchestras internationally such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.
