MOBY MAKES HIS MIDDLE EAST DEBUT IN DUBAI ON 4th JULY 2011
Musician, singer-songwriter, DJ on World Tour in support of his Greatest Hits and new album DESTROYED.
It’s been talked about by promoters for years that MOBY will come to the Middle East either as a DJ or Live act, well now it’s been confirmed by Dubai based concert promoters The Talent Brokers that MOBY will be bringing his full live band for the DESTROYED WORLD TOUR to DUBAI on 4th JULY 2011 to the DUBAI WORLD TRADE CENTRE.
Moby has been making music since he was 9 years old. he started out playing classical guitar and then went on to play with seminal Connecticut hardcore punk group 'The Vatican Commandoes' when he was 13. He started dj'ing after leaving college, and was a fixture in the late 80's New York house and hip-hop scenes.
He released his first single, 'Go' in 1991(listed as one of rolling stones best records of all time), and has been making albums ever since. His own records have sold over 20,000,000 copies worldwide, and he's also produced and remixed scores of other artists, including David Bowie, Metallica, The Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, among others.
He has toured tirelessly, playing well over 3,000 concerts in his career, and has also had his music used in hundreds of different films, including 'Heat', 'Any Given Sunday', 'Tomorrow Never Dies', and 'The Beach', among others.
Moby works closely with a variety of different charities, including the humane society and the institute for music and neurological function, and in 2007 he launched 'mobygratis', which provides free music for independent film makers.
Moby has just announced the release of a new single, The Day, out May 9th. The Day is taken from his upcoming new studio album, Destroyed, which he releases worldwide on May 16th.
The Day will be available in advance on iTunes from April 2nd, followed by the official release date and full remix bundle on May 9th. The package will include the original album track, with remixes from Lifelike, Basto, Gesaffelstein, Eddie Thoneick and Funkerman.
“‘The Day’ was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn’t slept. It was a beautiful hotel room, a beautiful perfect hotel room and it was six or seven in the morning. I wrote it on a acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with old broken down electronics that I have in my studio”. - Moby
The Day was indirectly inspired by David Bowie and Brian Eno’s production which Moby believes is now part of his DNA; growing up, Moby had Low and Heroes spinning constantly on his turntable.
