More info
Oakley Rhythm Factory is a weekly show on Radio 1 presented by DJ’s Charl Chaka & Smokingroove. With different aspects of the dance music spectrum from around the globe influencing the show it was only a natural progression to get these artist on the live stage. After a successful event in October with Gilles Peterson & JoJoFlores, Rhythm Factory looks forward to welcoming US stars and legends in their own right to Nasimi Beach, Kenny Dope and Chuck Love. About Kenny Dope (Master of Work) Three-time Grammy nominated house DJ/producer Kenny Dope, known as a ‘living encyclopedia of beats’, is playing at the Rhythm Factory at Nasimi Beach on the 27th November. The ‘purveyor of sonic masterpieces’, known for inspiring a whole generation of DJs who can produce, boasts a panoptic career spanning more than two decades. Raised in a tough Brooklyn suburb, the aspiring musician had a chance introduction to Little Louie Vega in 1990, which brokered a creative partnership dubbed Masters at Work. Quickly becoming ubiquitous in the club scene, their working relationship also preempted a series of productions for R. Kelly, Janet Jackson, Daft Punk and Luther Vandross. The outstanding success of album release Bucketheads in 1995 catapulted him into the limelight and became the catalyst for the start of his solo recognition. The later release, album The Nuyorican Soul, also showcased Kenny’s unerring personal imprint, and marked his transition to one of the USA’s most relevant producers. The last few years have seen the myriad-mixer in shows all over the globe, and establishing a firm reputation as a DJ extraordinaire; able to produce an aural melting pot of house, jazz funk, soul and hip hop. Also, with Scottish funk DJ Keb Large, set up Kay-Dee records: “There is so much great music out there, we decided to find it and bring it to the masses”. About Chuck Love This house music maestro is one hell of a performer. Combining his DJ sets with trumpets, flutes, guitar and whatever else he can find in the music room, his articulate sets give any dance floor a new definition. “I really started as a live performer before anything else,” Chuck said. “First in rock bands, then as an electronic live PA type of thing and then as the instrumentalist with other people spinning. All of this was done before I ever took up DJing myself. I always approached DJing as support for my performance similar to an Extreme Karaoke style. The live instruments are something that does identify me, and sets me apart from other DJs.” When his contemporaries in his house-lovin' home-base of Minneapolis expressed their love of the beat through DJ sets, Love would happily back them on trumpet, guitar, or really anything else he could find - his shows at legendary night spot First Avenue becoming more packed each month. It's not that Love can't DJ or produce - au contraire. Released by the house of Om Records - a label Love has followed for decades - "Bring Enough To Spill Some" is a 2-disc collection that demonstrates his special, stylistic diversity and ability to both mix a ridiculous set and produce tracks to showcase inside it.
