Allegro Moderato presents Ekaterina Mechetina

Acclaimed Russian pianist to make UAE debut
World-famous artist Ekaterina Mechetina set to wow international audience this October as opener for Art Media series of classical music events; includes unique opportunity for Dubai fans to meet performers in person at exclusive concert after-party

Art Media, arts and culture event organiser and publisher of high-end Russian language coffee table magazine Art Plus Prive, has revealed details of the first in a series of seven classical music events, to be held on Saturday, 24th October, 2015, with acclaimed Russian concert pianist, Ekaterina Mechetina, set to appear on stage in Dubai for one night only.
The ‘Dubai Allegro Moderato’ concert, entitled ‘Dubai Allegro Moderato’, which will take place at the Majlis Al Salam ballroom at Madinat Jumeirah, under the patronage of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, marks Mechetina’s first public performance in the UAE and second in the region.
The Dubai Allegro Moderato series opens with an exciting repertoire including works by iconic Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and renowned Russian composer, Alexander Scriabin.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ekaterina to Dubai. A highly sought-after international artist who has performed at some of the world’s most fêted venues, it is a real coup to have her perform here. A household name within the Russian cultural community, she is also hugely popular with international classical music aficionados, and we fully expect this to be a sell-out event,” said Vladimir Burdun, CEO, Art Media.
Born into a family of musicians, as a young child Mechetina studied piano at the Moscow State Conservatory’s renowned Central School for Music, later under the coveted post-graduate tutelage of Sergey Leonidovich Dorensky.
A multiple career award-winner, her meteoric rise to musical fame has seen her perform on virtually every continent, earning critical acclaim from the industry and audiences alike.
She continues to travel the globe, performing around 80 concerts per year, and has worked with world-class orchestras in numerous famous venues both at home in Moscow, as well as places such as Berlin’s Schauspielhaus, the Gaveau in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Great Hall of the Milan Conservatory.
One of the most frequently invited guest soloists of Maestro Vladimir Spivakov’s orchestras – the National Symphony of Russia and Virtuosi of Moscow – she has also performed under Mstislav Rostropovich in Taiwan.
As well as her performance schedule, Mechetina conducts regular master classes for students at the renowned Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and is an in-demand judge at prominent international competitions and director of her own music festival, the annual ‘Green Noise’ event in Surgut City, Russia.
In another first for Art Media, guest of honour at the October event will be legendary Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Vladimir Vasiliev, who is flying in especially for her Dubai debut.
The son of a truck driver, Vasiliev was principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet, and has been delighting international audiences for over half a century. Best known for his role as Spartacus, and the only performer to be given the title of ‘World’s Best Dancer’ by the Paris Dance Academy, he is a legend on the Russian ballet scene.
“Concert attendees will also have a unique opportunity to meet both Ekaterina and Vladimir in person at the event after-party, where they can mingle with fellow music lovers, artists and cultural influencers,” remarked Burdun.
Doors open at 7pm with curtain up at 8pm. Tickets are priced from AED 250 and are available from the Souk Madinat Jumeirah theatre box office (04 366 6546), at UAE Exchange branches across the emirate, or at www.platinumlist.net.
The event is co-sponsored by the Russian Caviar House Group of Companies and House of Pianos.
Art Media has a further two events lined up with one of the world’s leading pianists, Italy’s Paolo Restani, performing on 18th December, 2015, and the renowned Artenius Trio from Germany opening the 2016 event calendar with a concert on 23rd January.
