We have something special for you this time! We’re giving you the complete Shkoon experience with a special video filmed just for Kaynouna ‘We Are Roots’! Ameen (Vocals) and Maher (Violin) will be joining Thorben through an exclusively recorded live video to give you the full Shkoon impact!
--------- LINEUP ---------
--------- SHKOON ---------
“We feel good with jamming and performing live and love to spread positivity around, just to proof there is no borders between cultures.”
Ameens long journey from Syria ended sudden in Hamburg, Germany, where he met Thorben. One night they where sitting in the kitchen and started drumming on the table and singing together. The spark leaped over and the project was born.
For Ameen, music was never a big topic back in Syria, until they realized his talent in a kitchen somewhere in Germany. For Thorben music was always part of his life and he started with a classic piano-training in his childhood. After going through different stages and genres, he got to electronic music on a experimental basis. While traveling around festivals they met the gipsy Violinist Maher. A Syrian violinist who studied classical music in Damascus, who lives a dream of a free live through music. Since their first jam the three of them started experimenting sounds and music on stage and in the studio Ameen, Thorben and Maher developed their own sound of Arabic melodies mixed with classic harmonic structures, enriched with baselines and kicks. Piano, synthesizer, drum machine, violin, percussion and vocals find their new home in oriental Slow-House. The feedback was amazing.
Since that Shkoon played together on famous festivals and clubs like the Fusion Festival and Kater Blau in Berlin. They are also playing a lot on political and cultural events to spread their idea of intercultural sound.
--------- KERALA DUST ---------
KERALA DUST seeks to bridge that divide between electronic music and traditional songwriting, drawing on influences as far and wide as Tom Waits, Talking Heads and Abdulla Rashim.
Currently based in South London, the strange and excessive confusion of the city is reflected back in the anonymity of Kerala Dust’s basement studio. Whether as a solo artist in production or as a live trio in performance : the members within the inclusive isolation of this project would like you to dance while also wondering if there’s really a point to anything. The realisation that there is no point will merely be liberating.
--------- BACHIR SALLOUM ---------
Raised on Beirut’s infamous club scene, Bachir is a rising Middle East talent thanks to his uplifting mellifluous sets and deep, emotional productions that have been picked up and played by none other than Hernan Cattaneo. Inspired by his older brother who was a hip-hop and R&B DJ, Bachir started exploring electronic music aged 16 and was captivated by Beirut's diverse music scene.
That diversity has continued into his sets, as he creates moving shows that balance dark and light, blending progressive house, deep house and shades of tech house to build memorable sessions that live long in the memory.
Based in Dubai since 2014, he’s played alongside several A-list DJs including Nick Warren, Sasha and Hernan Cattaneo, who was one of the first to pick up on his promising productions. Signed to Genesis and Plattenbank Records, his dream-like house and progressive productions have quickly picked up a strong following, with further releases to come in 2017 including a collaboration with fellow Middle East producer Zone+. With more local and international gigs confirmed for the end of 2017 and beyond, Bachir is set to be one of the stars of the Middle East scene and beyond.
--------- AAYA ---------
Aaya started his career in music as a DJ playing at numerous festivals and night clubs around the world, including a residency in his hometown, Montreal.
Currently, Aaya is lecturing at the highly reputable SAE Institute in Dubai, while running his own acoustics business.
Producing music was a natural progression and since 1998, Aaya has been tailoring his live act, creating a recognizable and unique sound combining elements ranging from House, Ambient, Oriental to Psychedelic Tribal.
