The Grammy nominated artist/producer kicks off his Middle East tour in Beirut on the 4th of June, before making two appearances in the UAE on the 5th and 6th of June at People by Crystal in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively.
The award-winning nightclub has risen as the epitome of nightlife by attracting the hottest international acts, and what better way to kick it off the summer season than a performance by one of RnB’s rising stars.
The Weeknd first rose to prominence in 2011 when he released three mixtapes, which garnered critical acclaim. The mixtapes quickly caught traction on the Internet, with fellow Canadian Drake posting them on his blog, making The Weeknd an almost overnight success.
The artist is known for his covers of popular songs such as Michael Jackson’s Dirty Diana as well as Beyonce’s latest hit Drunk in Love. His willingness to respond to cover crowd favorites as well as fuse different genres of music such as blues, punk and alternative rock into his distinct form of RnB makes The Weeknd an extremely popular choice among a younger generation of RnB fans craving for a new sound that defines their generation.
His first single Wicked Games was nominated for several awards and won an award at the MTV O Music Awards. The Weeknd’s collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa saw him nominated for a Grammy in 2014 for their hit Remember You.
