Short+Sweet Theatre 2019

Short+Sweet Theatre is the largest showcase of 10 minute plays in the world. This is the 7th year of Short+Sweet in Dubai and just like the past two years the festival will be hosted by The Junction, Alserkal Avenue between January 25th and March 9th 2019.

Spread over seven jam-packed weekends, more than 200 of Dubai’s most exciting actors, writers, directors and independent theatre companies will present 100 ten-minute plays. The Dubai edition is also the second largest in the world after Sydney, the oldest and flagship of Short+Sweet.

There is something for everyone - comedy, drama, romance and thrillers. In 2018 the festival introduced a non-English show over one weekend in the wildcards category. In 2019 the festival has dedicated an entire weekend with Top 50 and Wildcards for non-English category enabling around 20 plays of different languages to be performed. It’s the weekend to showcase the diversity of cultures and ethnicities who call Dubai home.

Short+Sweet Theatre has been the stepping stone for many new and aspiring artists and this year is no different. Along with the veterans from the community we have a huge number of new talent participating this year making it an exciting event as always with surprises expected each week. Having had a non-English play form wildcards make it all the way to the Gala Finals and winning the Judges choice in 2018, anything is possible and that’s what makes this year’s Short+Sweet a much anticipated event!
