Argan thinks he is very ill. Around his armchair which sits in the middle of the stage, Doctor Diafoirus and M. Purgon, the apothecary, dispense him with plenty of purges and medicines; Béline, his second wife, awaits her inheritance; Angélique, his daughter, begs him not to force her to marry the son of M. Diafoirus; and Béralde, his brother, fail to reason with him and convince him to marry his daughter and Cléante who love each other.

Toinette, as an energetic servant, will find, by burlesque machinations, the solution of all this – Discover one of the masterpieces of MOLIERE. The last play he wrote … and the last in which he played himself

Argan se croit très malade. Autour de son fauteuil qui trône au milieu de la scène, le docteur Diafoirus et M. Purgon, l’apothicaire, lui dispensent avec abondance purges et médicaments ; Béline, sa seconde épouse, attend son héritage ; Angélique, sa fille, le supplie de ne pas l’obliger à épouser le fils de M.

Diafoirus ; et Béralde, son frère, ne parvient pas à le raisonner et à le convaincre de marier sa fille et Cléante qui s’aiment. Toinette, en servante énergique, trouvera, par des machinations burlesques, la solution de tout cela.
