Birthdays don’t get much bigger than this. See You Next Friday marks its first year in business by inviting down the globe-conquering electro-pop star Calvin Harris to play at their first birthday. Having brought over some of the biggest names in live and DJ music to Alpha including The Futureheads, Mystery Jets, New Young Pony Club, The Dub Pistols, Scratch Perverts and The Loose Cannons, and given some of Dubai’s best local bands a platform to play - notably Abri, Diligent Thought, Swerte, Gayathri, Juliana Down and The Meerkats - See You Next Friday hands the decks over to the rising star of dance music. He’s just had the Number 1 in the UK charts with the smash hit ‘I’m Not Alone,’ – which is available for download from all Digital stores – and has previously hit the top of the charts with his Dizzee Rascal collaboration ‘Dance Wiv Me.’ His first album, I Created Disco, was a huge hit around the world, with tracks like ‘Acceptable in the 80s,’ ‘Merrymaking at My House,’ and ‘Girls,’ with his second album out in September. He also helped record two tracks on Kylie’s last album, and has also remixed for The Kaiser Chiefs, CSS, Jamiroquai and The Ting Tings. And he’ll now be playing on Alpha’s Funktion 1 Soundsystem to 600 very lucky clubbers. This will sell out – it’s Calvin Harris! – so make sure you get down there early.
