Bar Rumba featuring Seiji (Bugz In The Attic) at Calabar, The Address Downtown Dubai

Dubai –22 February 2010– OHM Events and Calabar team up to launch Bar Rumba - a new series of events at The Address, Downtown Dubai. The vibrant, trendy and chic Calabar is the premium lounge for the fashionable at heart. As the sun sets behind the iconic Burj Khalifa, Calabar’s idyllic sundownder terrace comes alive with an energetic buzz.

The Bar Rumba concept will cater to the musical needs of Latin, Jazz, Trip Hop and broken beat enthusiasts alike and will feature world acclaimed DJs from the likes of Nickodemus (NYC), Crazy P (UK), Rainer Truby (Germnay), Seiji (Bugz in the Attic), Toshio Matsuura (Tokyo) and many more. The guest DJs will take on weekend residencies at Bar Rhumba performing from Thursday to Saturday, thus offering a unique opportunity to catch them throughout the weekend.

The musical journey of Bar Rhumba at Calabar will encompass a wide range  of genres such as Brazilian, dub, reggae, cumbia, samba disco, salsa, afro-latin house, makossa, Balkan, funk and other deep-rooted soul music from around the world.

Bar Rhumba at Calabar will also feature an extensive selection of beverages prepared by out mixologist to compliment the stunning views of Downtown for a perfect night out. For early birds there will be a happy hour 6 to 8pm with 50% off on all drinks.

Bar Rhumba will feature acclaimed DJ/Producer Seiji (Bugz In The Attic) on February 24/25/26. There is no entry fee or cover charge, however entrance is restricted to 21 years and above. For table reservations please call 050 7258277.

Seiji (Bugz In The Attic)

Paul ‘Seiji’ Dolby started in music as a classically trained cellist, but as a teenager in the early 1990s he discovered Hardcore, Jungle and later US House music. His early experiments in electronic music were released on the seminal Jungle/D’n’B label, Reinforced.

As a founding member of West London collective Bugz in the Attic, Seiji was one of the pioneers of ‘broken beat’, playing regularly at the legendary Sunday club night Co-Op, and taking the broken sound all over the world.   

After leaving Bugz in 2007, Seiji released DJ Tools, an experimental beats album, on Sonar Kollektiv, at the same time as producing and co-writing much of Roisin Murphy’s ‘Overpowered’ LP.

Seiji’s influence is now more keenly felt than ever, with myriad UK funky and contemporary garage producers referencing his work. He has now returned to underground dance music, presenting his own fresh and eccentric take on bass heavy music with remixes including Erykah Badu, Crookers, Florence & The Machine and Gorillaz, and releases on Numbers, Fools Gold, Ninja Tune, Mad Decent, to name a few.

In 2009 Paul began releasing seijigoodies, a set of exclusive free tracks available via his website www.seiji.co.uk, he now presents the SEIJI series a brand new strictly dancefloor-focused project which includes SEIJI 1 Yesman/Elevator, and now SEIJI 2 Straylight/Weedkiller. The SEIJI series will be continuing with a release every 3 months in 2011.
