JOINING THE DOTS WITH GILLES PETERSON Since gracing our airwaves back in the early 1980’s Gilles Peterson has been a constant champion of new music from across the globe. Internationally known as “joining the dots” between Jazz, Latin, Drum & Bass, Soul, Breaks, Funk and an array of other genres Gilles first introduced his unique sound via his own London-based pirate radio show, Civic Radio. The formula for Gilles’ radio shows is a simple one: the finest new music he can lay his hands on… and that’s it. From Sun-Ra to Roy Hargrove to Theo Parrish to Flying Lotus – if it swings in the right places, it’s in. His shows are a marker for everything that is great about underground music from Brooklyn to Benin and beyond. Today, Peterson is at the forefront of his own independent label -Brownswood Recordings - which launched in 2006 as an outlet for his favourite new discoveries.
