Continuing on from the success of Jump Fest in February 2009, JUMP Media are holding their second annual one day music festival. JUMP Fest will once again showcase the talents of local bands and musicians and end with 3 major international acts, Finley Quaye, Easy Star All- Stars, and Legends of Ska.The local line up consists of two of Dubai’s top singer/songwriters, Tahnee, and DaNny, warming up for the night’s leading international acts. The night will have something for everyone with an eclectic mix of genres including ska, reggae, soul, funk and hip hop!JUMP FEST BANDS INFOFINLEY QUAYE:When Finley Quaye burst onto the British Music scene in 1997 his debut album Maverick A Strike quickly established him as one of the few truly innovative artists around. He won the 1997 Mobo Award for best Reggae act, and the 1998 BRIT Award for Best British Male Solo Artist. In late 1997 he reached the UK Top 20 twice with "Sunday Shining", and "Even After All". His reputation was established by Maverick A Strike, an adventurous but accessible album released in September 1997. It went gold less than three weeks later, and led directly to the BRIT Award victory. Maverick A Strike is now multi platinum. He is currently working on a new album with A Guy Called Gerald & The Stereo MCs. Finley recorded "Pound For Pound" in 2007 with Reggae veteran Norman Grant of The Twinkle Brothers featuring Sly Dunbar and Lloyd Parks. In the past he has worked with Osibisa, both on stage and in the studio, with Iggy Pop, Tricky, Primal Scream, Lee Scratch Perry and Buju Banton.EASY STAR ALL- STARS:Combining musical versatility, instrumental prowess, beautiful vocal harmonies and a superb rhythm section, the Easy Star All-Stars have established themselves as one of the top international reggae acts since their live debut in 2003. They rock every crowd they play for, whether it’s to thousands at festivals or hundreds at club gigs and private events (like the wedding of NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s daughter). Thanks to their best-selling tribute album releases, Dub Side of the Moon (2003) and Radiodread (2006), as well as Until That Day (2008), an original EP, the Easy Star All-Stars have built a growing, dedicated fan base throughout the world, bringing together fans of reggae, classic rock, dub and indie rock into one big family. Their newest release, Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band, tackles the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in complete reggae fashion. The Easy Star All- Stars, have been a resounding success. The band has played at major festivals and headlined shows in over 20 countries on 5 continents. Their worldwide album sales have surpassed 250,000 units since 2003, with Dub Side of the Moon spending over 5 years on Billboard’s Reggae Chart. MOJO picked Dub Side as the second best cover album of all time. Radiodread spent almost 2 years on Billboard’s Reggae Chart and earned praise from the members of Radiohead themselves!LEGENDS OF SKA: What happens when you get the three lead singers of the 2 legendary Ska bands in the world? Magic, that’s what! See the original Legends of Ska all on one stage! Featuring, Neville Staple from The Specials and Pauline Black from The Selecter- performing all their great Ska hits from Ghost Town to Gangster! Accompanied by an amazing original six piece Ska band… this truly live show is not to be missed! So grab your pork pie hat, get your rude boy style on and have a night out to remember! Pauline BlackPauline Black is of Nigerian descent and grew up in London. She studied biochemistry at Coventry University and radiography at the Coventry School of Radiography. In 1979, she became the lead singer with 2-TONE group the The Selecter and enjoyed a string of hits in the early '80'S, gaining two gold discs. In 1982 she left The Selecter (the band split up soon after), gained her Equity card and diversified into theatre, TV and film acting, TV and radio presentation and writing. The Selecter re-formed in 1991 and toured extensively in U.S.A, Europe and Japan. The band retired from the touring circuit in December 2006. From 2001-2006, Pauline also toured with acoustic 'supergroup' Three Men+ Black with Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers), Jean Jacques Burnel (The Stranglers), Bruce Foxton (The Jam), Dave Wakeling (The Beat), Rhoda Dakar (The Bodysnatchers) and Nick Welsh (Skaville UK). During 2007, Pauline fulfilled a long-time wish to pay homage to the songs of her two idols, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. She toured with The Blue Jazz Trio (Pick Withers: drums (ex-Dire Straits & Bob Dylan) Nigel Portman-Smith: double bass (ex-Pentangle) & Dom Pipkin: keyboards (ex-Morcheeba) in 'The Very Best Of Nina Simone & Billie Holiday'. Enjoying her new found freedom in 2007, she narrated 'Soul Britannia', a critically acclaimed 3 part TV series for BBC4/ BBC2 and then hosted and performed in two televised live concerts from the Barbican Theatre in London featuring many of the artists from the series. Backstage she met Geno Washington & Eddie Floyd, who invited her to join the 'This Is Soul Tour 2008', which saw her host and perform on a highly successful 30 date UK tour with these two legends of soul music. Pauline performed a set of songs culled from her solo back catalogue and from The Selecter. Currently, Pauline has begun work on a new solo album with songwriting partner Neil Pyzer (ex-Spear Of Destiny, Ram Jam Band). She has also been invited to provide details of her life story for a new feature film about four young black people growing up in Coventry in the late 70's, the four protagonists are based on the lives of Pauline, Neville Staple(The Specials), Danny Thomas & Errol Christie. This project has led her to begin writing her memoirs. 2009 is the 30th anniversary of the legendary '2-Tone Label', which was spearheaded by The Specials & The Selecter. Pauline will be involved in several celebratory concerts throughout next year. In March 2009, she embarks on her first South American tour, with concerts in Argentina, Brazil & Chile. Neville Staple- the original rude boy! Best known for his work writing & composing, as the lead singer of The Specials, and as one of the founding members of Fun Boy 3, Neville Staple is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice. Neville's biography and past projects read like a who's who of rock. He has worked with such legends as Elvis Costello (The Specials 1979 – Chrysalis Records), David Byrne (Fun Boy 3 Waiting 1983 – Chrysalis Records), and Ali Campbell (Today's Specials 1996 – Kuff Records/Virgin), to name only a few. His talents are found on the unique tribute album, Searching For Jimi Hendrix (1999 – Capitol Records) a project that Neville is personally quite proud of. In addition to having recorded with some of rock’s most famous, he has also shared the stage with such icons as Ranking Roger (English Beat) forming Special Beat. Although this line-up never actually recorded an album they successfully toured the U.S. with Sting and Steel Pulse, which ultimately lead up to their own headline tour.Since 1998 Neville has been on a mission to entertain, successfully touring Japan, South America and extensively touring North America with his own band. Above all he is a performer. It is worth seeing Neville's live performance, his captivation stage presence and distinct voice are well worth it. Catch his show these days, and you'll get a mix of old favourites plus loads of his brand new original solo material. Neville Staple has been recording in both the UK for 525 Music Productions at Planet Studios, and in Southern California recording and writing. These tracks will be on his new solo album of all original material. In the meantime look for Neville on tour.
