Millions of people around the world know Abdurahman Afia through his warmth, honesty and unmistakable humour. Yet even those who feel they know him have heard only fragments of the journey that shaped him.

The Unlikely Hostage brings his complete story to the stage for the first time. From privilege to homelessness, rejection to faith, betrayal and captivity to devastating loss and remarkable reinvention, the performance reveals the experiences behind the familiar public figure.

Combining live storytelling with immersive visuals, sound, tension and unexpected humour, the show is intimate, cinematic and deeply human. It is designed so that, whatever their background, every audience member can recognise something of their own journey within his.

Age Guidance: Recommended for ages 15 and above due to mature themes.

By car: Take Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) towards Dubai and exit at interchange 5. Merge onto Umm Suqeim Road (D63) and follow the signs to Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Once inside the Madinat Jumeirah complex, follow the internal roads to the parking areas near the souk.

By public transportation: Take the Dubai Metro to the Mall of the Emirates station. From there, you can take a taxi or use a ride-sharing service for a short distance to the entrance of Souk Madinat Jumeirah.

By taxi: You can also take a taxi or request a ride-hailing service to the Madinat Jumeirah complex from anywhere in Dubai. It is a famous destination, and most drivers will be familiar with the location.
