Reputable in contemporary metropolitan culture, REKKORD direct aspects of music, the arts and novelty towards a distinguished approach to nightlife. Remember the conversations across crates? Remember when the best records were just mysterious white labels with a cryptic message and a fax number etched in the runout groove? And the best house music rose to authentic credibility on its own merits.” Philip Jo, South African born and bred DJ and producer has been active in the world of electronic music for almost 15 years. Cultivating a fascination with music since childhood, Philip Jo grew up listening to artists like Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto, Dépêche Mode, New Order, Kraftwerk and Yello that heavily influenced his personal style and feel of music and the range of genres you hear in his sets, filtering down from deep playful, sensual and funky addictive melodic hooks, stabs and lyrics complimenting the more techno inspired realms of electronic house music to pumping chained beats and infectious progressive rhythms. In 2008 Philip Jo made the next most logical move in his music career to the bigger and better than ever Sandpit – Dubai (UAE) where there was a booming frenzy of top internationals featuring at a hand full of famous international clubs every week. Dubai was where it was all happening and it was not long before Philip Jo slowly edged his way into the circuit soaring to the top becoming one of the most sought after UAE residents where he has been causing a stir with his edgy, hypnotic and offbeat electronic house music style and mixing technique constantly pushing the cerebral boundaries and taking his music and sets to new and more extraordinary territory. Philip Jo has held residencies and performed in various exclusive and infamous international clubs in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Australia, Europe and UAE. He currently performs at events and various local clubs in the UAE and is also a promoter heading up REKKORD his own eclectic house music event in Dubai. _________________________________________________________ Afroboogie - Biography The start of Afroboogie’s career was in 1989, long before DJ’s got any recognition, never mind press. He was playing all night sets in Johannesburg’s clubs and later played a big role at the start and rise of the early warehouse parties. Afroboogie swiftly became a respected name across the country. A 5 year residency at ESP in Jo’burg made Sunday afternoons at the infamous club unforgettable as did his own Friday club, Flyhouse. With a gig schedule taking him to all corners of the country he established himself as a confident DJ, playing major events like Mother Productions, Ministry of Sound, ICE, Cream, Womad, Amnesia and Pacha tours, some with audiences close to 20,000 people. This established him to a point where he initiated and started the release of DJ mix compilations and went on to release 9 CD compilations in the period from 1996-2002. Since 2006, Dubai has been Afroboogie’s home base where he has held residencies at the biggest clubs including Trilogy and his longest standing residency at the infamous Peppermint Club which hosted the world’s biggest DJ’s every week. Other key venues include Sanctuary, Nasimi Beach and Allure by Cipriani. His music releases have featured on labels including Defected, Stealth Records, Stereo, Twisted, Audio Therapy and continue to push his envelope as a producer. He has received support from the likes of Timo Maas, Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Tom Stephan, Steve Porter, Oscar G, Saeed, Roger Sanchez, Laurent Garnier, Chus & Ceballos and Sasha. Afroboogie has warmed up for the likes of Luciano, Erick Morillo, Sasha, John Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge, Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tommie, Roger Sanchez, Jr Sanchez, Layo and Bushwacka, Mr C, Tim Deluxe, Nick Warren, Faithless and Orbital to name a few! _________________________________________________________
