Viennese balls are annual Austrian society events that take place in the building of the Vienna State Opera, the Imperial Palace, and many other prestigious buildings. One of the highlights of the Viennese carnival season, among others, is the Vienna State Opera Ball.

The tradition of the ball goes back to 1814 during the time when the crowned heads of Europe and the aristocracy searched for entertainment after the Napoleonic wars.

The Viennese ball has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
