Barasti Beach House Launch  BBH presents Café Mambo feat Jose Padilla What: Jose Padilla (Café Mambo) DJ Set support:DJ Solo Soul, Latin, Funk Set Satyen Choksi  Ali Ajami Live Percussion / Guitar Where: Barasti Beach, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi When:Friday October 2nd, 2009  José Padilla b. 1956, Spain. Padilla's name is synonymous with Ibiza's famous beach-sidebar, the Café Del Mar, where he was the resident DJ for more than 15 years. Although no longer there, he remains an Ibizan institution playing at variousvenues on the island every summer and all over Europe during the rest of the year. Padilla moved to Ibiza in 1975, taking up the DJ residency at Cafe del Mar in1991. In 1994, he compiled the first Cafe del Mar album for the React label. The series is now in its 13th volume and has spun off several related compilations, as well as leading to the creating of the bar's own eponymouslabel. Padilla selected tracks for the first six, as well as the 20th Anniversary commemorative release. While several tracks of Padilla's appeared in hisvarious compilations, it wasn't until 1998 he released his first album, Souvenir,on label Mercury Records. The CD featured collaborations with several chill-out musicians, including Lenny Ibizarre and Paco Fernandez. His secondalbum, Navigator, was released in 2001. Not an archetypal superstar DJ (he was voted number 100 in DJ magazine'sTop 100 of the world's DJs), he is an unsung hero to many and certainly the original chill out DJ. His sets at the Café Del Mar, which, like the bar itself, used the sunset as their focal point, have become part of clubbers' folklore.Padilla crafted the quintessential sunrise soundtrack, providing the perfectantidote to the ferocious "four-to-the-floor" (slang for the traditional timesignature of house) energy of the island's other clubs. His style ranges freelythrough classic funk, ethereal house, contemporary ambient music, soundtracks and artists as diverse as Art Of Noise, Dusty Springfield and Vangelis. In this sense, he has remained true to the Balearic tradition of dancemusic: the old and new juxtaposed and orchestrated into a fluid, blissful, subtly funky groove. Padilla moved to Ibiza in the mid-70s to escape the citylife, and began to DJ at the Café Del Mar. The bar's clientele pestered him for tapes of the unusually serene music he played. Eventually, this led to the recording of the Café Del Mar compilation series that was originally releasedon the React Music label in the UK. Arguably, the albums have and continue to inspire numerous inferior Ibiza/chillout compilations. In addition toproducing several of his own singles and an album of original material,Souvenir, Padilla has also moved into scoring film soundtracks. This will be José Padillaʼs first ever visit to the region.  Supporting Acts DJ Solo is arguably the finest scratch DJ in the region, although his Barasti Beach House sets will concentratemore on his passion Latin, Soul and Funk. A man with a wealth of talent and knowledge when it comes to OldSchool Hip-Hop, his passion is for music in general withrecent forays into the funkier side of electonica.A proven performer as well as an top-class selector, DJ Solo has played at some high-brow events in his time, most notably he has been a main feature at the DubaiWorld Cup 4 years-running. Satyen Choksi is the Co-Founder / Director of theMiddle Eastʼs one-and-only vinyl record store, OhmRecords. Originally fromBeirut, this much travelled spinner is a winner of theHeineken Thirst competition from which he went on to work and produce with Groove Armada and then to play alongside some of the biggest DJs in the world at DeepNights, Trilogy and, more recently Sanctuary. With an uncanny ability to read a crowd and respondaccordingly, Ajami is the perfect choice to bring the night to a close.   What is Barasti Beach House?
