Presented by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, this landmark production brings one of Handel’s most commanding operas to Dubai for the very first time.

In January 2026, Tamerlano arrives at Dubai Opera in a grand staging that blends the elegance of European Baroque with the musical spirit of Central Asia, offering audiences a rare cross-cultural interpretation of the 1724 masterpiece.

Directed by acclaimed Italian visionary Stefano Poda, the production draws inspiration from the life and legacy of Amir Temur (Tamerlane), shaping an emotional story of power, love, and fate. The opera unfolds at the meeting point of empires, where personal ambition and human fragility collide.

More than 160 performers share the stage, including the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, the State Choir, the Uzbegim ensemble, and the Orchestra of National Instruments.

Together, they create a sound world that bridges East and West, enriching Handel’s Baroque score with the colours and textures of Uzbek traditional instruments in a newly imagined musical version by celebrated composer Kirill Richter.

Book your tickets and experience a historic opera event in Dubai.

The production, commissioned by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, is conceived by director Stefano Poda, whose holistic artistic approach merges direction, stage design, costumes, lighting, and choreography into one unified aesthetic language.

Visually inspired by Timurid architecture and symbolism, the staging offers a poetic dialogue between history and modernity — an immersive theatrical experience that transcends borders.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, under the baton of Honoured Artist of Uzbekistan Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, leads the performance with remarkable artistry, joined by a constellation of international soloists and dancers from the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi.

Bringing this production to Dubai Opera represents a milestone in the cultural collaboration between the Middle East and Central Asia, celebrating shared values of artistic excellence, diversity, and dialogue through music.
