Choral Masterclass & Clinic by Jonathan Velasco, DMA

Dr. Jonathan Velasco is a name every Filipino choir knows, spoken with the kind of respect reserved for very few conductors in a lifetime. He leads the Ateneo Chamber Singers, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts, and was the founding president of the Philippine Choral Directors Association. He has adjudicated and led clinics across Europe and Asia for twenty-five years, and he became the first Asian conductor of the World Youth Choir. In collaboration with Chorus Omnis, he brings that experience to Dubai, working directly with three of ChoirFest's own winners: Abu Dhabi Concert Chorus, Dubai Vocal Ensemble, and Chorus Omnis.

If you sing, conduct, or simply want to understand what goes into building a great choir, this night is for you. In his masterclass, "How to Use Your Voice," join Dr. Velasco as he shares his approach to technique and performance. Earlier in the day, the clinic gives audiences a chance to watch him work directly with each participating choir, coaching and shaping their sound in real time, which few ever get to witness.
